Bloomsday in Delhi

The Embassy of Ireland, India had two special events to commemorate Bloomsday on June 16th and 19th, respectively.

On Bloomsday, Sunday June 16th, Ambassador of Ireland to India Kevin Kelly and Deputy Ambassador Raymond Mullen will climb the Martello Tower at Old Delhi’s Ansari Road and read aloud passages from Ulysses. Deputy Ambassador Mullen is a former academic who taught James Joyce at Queen’s University, Belfast.

On Wednesday, June 19th, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, in collaboration with Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, Shaw’s Corner, and Mayank Austen Soofi (Delhiwalla, Delhi’s own Joycewalla), celebrates a special evening dedicated to a dramatics reading of Joyce’s seminal work Ulysses. This event marks the 120th Anniversary of one of literature’s most celebrated novels, chronicling the experiences of three Dubliners over the course of a single day, 16 June 1904. Known for its stream of consciousness technique and experimental prose, Ulysses is regarded as one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century.Tickets are free but booking is essential.
